Assupol: Be prepared when tragedy strikes

26 August 2010 Assupol

Tragedy struck on 23 July 2010 when 5 members of the SAPS Intervention Unit as well as a police pilot and crew member were all killed when the helicopter they were travelling in, crashed. This incident rocked the nation.

The lives lost in this tragic accident can never be replaced. There is also nothing that warns us in advance of looming danger or loss. What can be done then in order to lessen the heartache and grief of the bereaved families? How do they cope financially after having lost their loved ones – often the only breadwinners in the family?

Events like this not only hit us emotionally, but also financially. Ask those who are left behind and have to pick up the pieces of their lives again. Because things like this cannot be foreseen, one needs to be prepared. Fortunately, a number of those killed in the helicopter crash, did make provision. They had policies with Assupol Life that covered their lives and also paid out an accident benefit. Although this could never replace them, the deceased policemen's families at least can carry on with their lives financially because provision has been made by their loved ones.

What would a family do without such provision? They would have to rely on other family members, friends, government grants – that would only add to their burdens and probably rob them of their dignity.

Be prepared – call Assupol Life today to ensure that your family is well taken care of when you are not there to do it yourself.
