S&P awards highlight success of STANLIB's long-haul investors
It pays to commit to long-haul investing with STANLIB, judging by results at the annual Standard & Poors Awards.
Accolades presented at one of the gala events on the investment industry calendar showcased the benefits of investment for the longer term at South Africas largest unit trust company.
STANLIB fund managers received a total of eight awards at the Cape Town awards ceremony (March 20) in mid-week, in all but one cases for outstanding performance over the crucial three- and five-year investment periods.
Kim Zietsman, head of single-manager unit trusts at STANLIB commented: "One of our key market education messages is that it pays to invest over the longer term, rather than flit in and out of markets. Market timing is not as crucial as many people think. Time in the market is the factor that contributes most significantly to wealth enhancement.
"It was therefore extremely satisfying that our award-winning funds featured most prominently over the three- and five-year investment terms - periods that reflect consistency and the application of a coherent wealth-building strategy.
"We were also delighted that our award-winning streak continues across such a broad spectrum - bonds and income funds, property, offshore investment and high equity multi-management."
STANDARD & Poors Fund Awards were won by:
The STANLIB Bond Fund (fund manager Henk Viljoen) as the top performer in the Domestic Fixed Interest Bond Fund sector over one year, three years and five years;
The STANLIB Income Fund (fund manager Henk Viljoen), best in the Domestic Fixed Interest Income category over three years and five years;
The STANLIB Property Income Fund (fund manager Mariette Warner), top Domestic Real Estate General Fund over three years;
The STANLIB International Balanced Fund of Funds (fund manager Kent Grobbelaar), leading Foreign Asset Allocation Flexible Fund over five years;
