Morning report 8.3.04
06 March 2004 | Investments | General | Angelo Coppola
Local equities closed lower on Friday as the rand strengthened against the majors, says Nico Kelder, economist at the Efficient Group.
The dollar was also weaker. The weaker dollar pushed commodity prices higher; gold to above $400/oz. European and US markets closed flat on Friday.
Buckling this trend, the Hang Seng is very strong this morning, up by more than 1.5 percent, this morning. We expect local markets to trade flat today, but keep an eye on the currency.
