Morning report (7.4)
06 April 2004 | Investments | General | Angelo Coppola
Local equities posted small gains yesterday while the currency closed flat, reports Nico Kelder, economist at the Efficient Group.
The currency initially weakened but found some strength later during the day. The dollar lost 0.5% against the euro. Bonds closed almost unchanged.
Commodities were mixed yesterday with gold and oil trading higher on the weaker dollar, while platinum took a dive. European and US markets were mixed with some losses reaching almost 1%.
We expect that the movement of the currencies, dollar and rand, will determine the trading on the JSE. We expect the markets to be quiet until a few days after the Easter break.
