The downward equity spiral, locally and internationally, continued on Friday, says Nico Kelder, economist at the Efifcient Group.

Local equities closed 1% lower, European and US markets were around 0.5% lower while the Nasdaq lost almost 2%. Bonds followed equities lower - R153 trading above the 10% level.

Commodities traded mixed - gold is trading slightly lower while platinum regained some of its lost shine. The Hang Seng is trading slightly higher this morning while the Nikkei is closed.

We expect that the market to trade slightly higher today.
