“The U.S. Labour Department should provide pension plans with guidance on investing in hedge funds and private equity - a report issued by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said on Wednesday.
The report found that pension plans are investing more and more in alternate investments like hedge funds, which are traditionally less transparent and riskier.
Because hedge funds and private equity investments are exempt from federal regulations that generally apply to other pension plan investments, the GAO recommended that the Secretary of Labour provide greater clarity on the differences between safe and unsafe investments.” WASHINGTON, Sept 10 (Reuters)
The Hedge funds World Africa conference, taking place in Cape Town in November, offers institutional investors and pension funds the opportunity to learn and debate the best options for their funds and the risks they face when investing in hedge funds.
Hedge Funds World Africa has an entire session dedicated to institutional investors and pension funds, with a highly impressive line–up of speakers. An entire masterclass on “Practical steps to investing in alternatives and choosing the right hedge fund” by Nikos Latsos, Director of Hedge Fund Investments at Alpheus Advisors in Greece will further clarify any questions institutional investors may have.
