Grand Prix Masters launches in SA
It was announced in Sandton today that the Altech South African Grand Prix, taking place at the Kyalami Grand Prix circuit from 11-13 November 2005 will feature the world’s inaugural Grand Prix Masters series Grand Prix.
South Africa was selected to host this prestigious inaugural event, with stiff competition from various other countries in Europe and the Middle East.
This will be the first single seater Grand Prix to be held on African soil since the South African Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1993.
This will also be the first event in a world series and will see some the worlds’ greatest Formula 1 heroes competing for pole position in this twenty equi-car grid line up.
The Grand Prix Masters series is a unique event which focuses on driver skill versus vehicle technology. All cars in the series have been manufactured to exactly the same specifications and will have the worlds’ most famous names in Formula 1 involved.
The drivers participating in the series are all previous Formula One heroes, winners and world champions who will fiercely compete against each other for a substantial cash prize.
The Grand Prix Masters gives the public the opportunity to once again follow their favorite racing legends around the track in pole position.
Confirmed drivers released to date are: F1 World Champions Alan Jones, Rene Arnoux, Johnny Herbert, Stefan Johannson and Christian Danner.
This inaugural race will be supported by the Altech South African Formula 1 two-seater Grand Prix, also will also be taking place over this weekend.
Last years’ Altech South African F1x2 event attracted over 90 000 spectators over the racing weekend, and this figure is set to climb with the announcement of the 50 lap Altech Grand Prix Masters Race.
One of the Grand Prix Masters custom designed vehicles, will be in South Africa in March to give the South African public a small taste of what’s to come.
