G20 & The Street: Investors Take the Wheel on Climate Accountability

19 November 2025 | Investments | General | Momentum Investments

With global attention on sustainability, inclusive growth, and corporate accountability highlighted by discussions at forums like the upcoming G20 Summit, Momentum Investments is showing how institutional investors can drive real impact.

The 2025 Annual Stewardship Report demonstrates how we actively engage with companies to align business practices with social and environmental responsibility.

This year our stewardship work focused on three strategic priorities: embedding climate key performance indicators into executive remuneration, supporting a climate just transition, and advancing water stewardship and biodiversity. Through careful engagement and responsible voting, leadership accountability, protection of shareholder interests, and promotion of measurable social and environmental outcomes are of importance.

Between July 2024 and June 2025, conversations with companies focused on linking executive pay to climate performance and planning for a fair transition in energy intensive sectors. This includes preparing workforces for the future through reskilling and equitable strategies, showing how thoughtful investment oversight can deliver both environmental and social impact.

Governance trends were also observed, and they signal higher accountability, with companies such as Foschini, Dis Chem and Vodacom tabling Social, Ethics and Transformation Committee resolutions at their AGMs. Momentum welcomes this shift and encourages measurable outcomes on social, ethical and transformation matters as stakeholders increasingly expect companies to act responsibly.

Through these efforts, Momentum Investments demonstrates that responsible investment is not only about financial returns. It is about shaping long term societal and environmental impact and ensuring that companies contribute positively to the communities and environments in which they operate.
