Explored all your avenues?
Mining companies have become highly profitable due to the current metal prices. This has sparked interest as private equity investors see these stable rates generating stable cash flows. Private equity investors have traditionally avoided the volatile mining industry but are expected to enter into the sector in the year ahead.
"Hein Boegman, a director in PWC's mining division, said that private equity had not been as active in the mining sector as hedge fund in the past, but that low levels of debt were making mining firms targets for private-equity deals."
During a study of the worlds 40 largest mining companies, conducted by PWC (Mine Riding the wave report), it was established that the ratio of debt compared to equity capital was at 15.2% This figure is possible reason why private equity investors are considering targeting numerous large mining companies including the leading diversified miner, BHP Biliton.
