The rand remained under pressure by losing 31 cents and 25 cents against the dollar and euro respectively during last week. The outlook for gold (-0.38%) might not be too encouraging as the direction of the US dollar is fundamental to its price.
The oil price (+0.38%) dropped by 4.34% as Opec continues to pump oil at nearly full tilt. US investors have been dumping blue chip stocks as fears of an economic slowdown raises again. Their equity markets closed mixed.
On the European front the indices closed virtually flat. Car manufacturers’ stock seems to be the culprits in dragging the Nikkei 225 (-0.91%) down. The Hang Seng is closed for a holiday.
