Congratulations…
In this scam fraudsters call to congratulate unsuspecting clients for winning a trip for two.
They ask for personal details, such as name, addresses, ID numbers, as well as details of dependents and credit card numbers.
Says Japie Krige, Head of Fraud at Absa Card Division:” Although we are aware of various permutations of Nigerian 419 scams this particular version is new to us.”.
Krige says the public should be wary of persons who unexpectedly advise them of windfalls requiring their banking details such as credit card or other account numbers.
“They should investigate the legitimacy of such claims before divulging any personal or banking details.”
“Only part with personal and banking detail once convinced of the legitimacy of the person contacting you with the windfall information and only if you are sure thattheir intentions are indeed honorable,” says Krige.
