AIMA SA launches new hedge funds guide

24 November 2009 | Investments | General | Alternative Investment Management Association South Africa (AIMA SA)

Hedge funds, once the misunderstood “bad boys” of the fund management industry, are increasingly taking their place in the mainstream as more informed investors look to incorporate the benefits of hedge funds in their portfolios.

As a result, AIMA SA has launched its new publication on hedge fund investing, South African Hedge Funds - a Guide for Investors.

Robert Foster, Chairman of the Alternative Investment Management Association South Africa (AIMA SA) and chief operating officer at Alpha Asset Management said there was growing acceptance of the fact that hedge fund management adds value in the investment arena as a credible and recognised investment strategy.

“Hedge funds are increasingly being assimilated into the mainstream investment industry as fully fledged strategies for managing money. Once regarded as alternative, there’s growing appreciation of the fact that they represent legitimate strategies that enhance investor returns.

“With that in mind, the new edition of AIMA SA’s guide is intended to empower current and prospective investors with relevant information on the South African hedge fund industry, its unique characteristics and who the main players are,” said Foster.

South African Hedge Funds - a Guide for Investors can be found on the AIMA SA website at http://www.aima.co.za/
