1nvest, Standard Bank Group’s specialist index tracking fund provider, has acquired Shari’ah compliancy certification for its commodity Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs).

This verification applies to 1nvest’s comprehensive commodity range, which includes the 1nvest Platinum ETF, 1nvest Palladium ETF, 1nvest Rhodium ETF and the 1nvest Gold ETF. The certification was conferred by the Standard Bank Shari’ah Advisory Committee.

“1nvest is the product of a collaboration from all three businesses under the Standard Bank Group,” explains Johann Erasmus, 1nvest Executive. “This includes Liberty, STANLIB and Standard Bank and enables us to pool together extensive financial markets expertise and experience to provide clients with a comprehensive range of 28 index tracking funds across multiple asset classes and geographies.”

As it stands, 1nvest offers clients access to 15 Unit Trust funds and 13 ETFs with strong and impressive track records. “This diverse range of product is available through the Groups client channels including Online Share Trading, Internet Banking Auto Share Invest, STANLIB and Liberty advisors, Standard Bank Financial Consultants and various third-party providers, meaning our clients can access their choice of product through their chosen channel.,” says Erasmus.

And now, with the Shari’ah certification of its commodity range, 1nvest is accessible to more clients. The Shari’ah-certified 1nvest commodity range provides cost-effective, transparent, and direct access to precious metal investments for clients that require diversification of their investment strategies.

In 2019 the 1nvest Rhodium ETF was best performer in the one-year (a return of 140.9%), two-year and three-year categories, according to research by global financial services firm Morningstar.

The 1nvest Rhodium ETF is also a consistent South African Listed Tracker Award (SALTA) winner for three years running in the category of Total Return Performance Award for Foreign and Commodity ETFs. It is currently the only rhodium fund on the African continent and is one of only two rhodium funds in the world.

“We are particularly excited about this Shari’ah certification of our commodity funds as it brings us closer to our vision of providing investment products that appeal to wider array of investors with diverse investment styles. Individuals and fund managers can easily access our ETF range through traditional stockbrokers or through online stockbrokers, such as Standard Bank Online Share Trading,” concludes Erasmus.
