The Entries for the 2023 Financial Planner of the Year Award close on 23 May 2023

10 March 2023 Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa

Call for Nominations - With the nominations for the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI) Awards 2023 officially open, the nominations for the Financial Planner of the Year (FPOTY) Award are gaining momentum.

Launched in 2000, the FPOTY Award is the most prestigious in the financial planning industry. It recognises South Africa’s top CFP® professional – an extraordinary professional who exhibits groundbreaking ideas, consummate skill and unimpeachable ethics when dealing with clients.

The 2022 winner, Palesa Dube, CFP®, exhibits these qualities and has been doing amazing and inspirational work since she was crowned, also playing a part in ensuring that representation in the sector is advanced and the profession remains relevant and accessible to all demographics – especially since, as financial planning and advice become increasingly holistic, more customers have a preference for being serviced by an industry that is representative.

Palesa says “I encourage [CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®] CFP® professionals to enter the competition because, if anything, it gives you the opportunity to revisit your financial planning process and assess it against the benchmark set by the FPI.  We can attest to how incorporating these learnings into our processes, reporting and documentation has further elevated the standard of our work. More than anything, it has given our practice the confidence to continue on our growth journey with the assurance that our value proposition and approach to financial planning are sound”.

Winning the award also comes with many prestigious recognition activities, including as one of the main highlights of the FPI Professional Convention being the reigning financial planner of the year interacting and engaging with members in both a formal and informal way to share and exchange ideas.

The CFP professional designation continues to grow globally, as relevance and demand for the designation has reached an all-time high, with the Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. having reported the number of CFP® professionals worldwide surpassing 213,000. This number was reached as a result of a 9,690 gain in CFP® professionals last year – which has, among other things, also highlighted the increased desire among financial professionals in South Africa to attain the designation.

CFPs play an important role in South Africa, where most people tend to begin planning for retirement much later in their lives. Entering and winning the FPOTY Award gives the winner an opportunity to have a significant impact on the saving culture in South Africa and play a role in empowering people to adopt a lifestyle that enhances their standard of living and make it possible to secure a better future for themselves and their families.

The prominence that comes to the winner’s profile also goes a long way in creating a credible and successful career that will keep growing in leaps and bounds.

The general public and members of the FPI are invited to enter or nominate people for the FPOTY Award.
