Financial Planning Standards Board global member meeting held in Cape Town, South Africa

The African financial planning community, led by the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa will host over 90 delegates during Financial Planning Standards Board’s (FPSB) Global Member Meeting taking place from 24 – 26 October 2017.

Directors of FPSB as well as leaders of FPI’s sister financial planning professional bodies, representing 23 FPSB member organisations from around the world, will converge on Cape Town.

FPSB partners with member organisations to benefit the global community by establishing, upholding and promoting worldwide professional standards in financial planning and the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®/ CFP® mark as the global symbol of excellence in financial planning.

Results from the 2015 Global Consumer Survey , conducted in 19 countries including South Africa, showed that:

• Just 22% of consumers feel strongly confident that they will achieve their financial goals
• Only 17% believe strongly in their financial know-how
• 19% feel they are successful at sticking to their financial strategies

It is in view of these results that FPSB promotes that life’s better when people have a comprehensive financial plan and when they partner with a CFP® professional.

“The Global Member Meeting enables participants to share ideas and best practices with peer bodies from around the world and how mutual experiences can be leveraged to the best advantage of FPSB and its member organisations”, said Noel Maye, FPSB CEO.

“The event provides an opportunity to raise awareness of FPSB and its mission of benefiting the global community by establishing, upholding and promoting worldwide professional standards in financial planning”, Maye added.

Delegates at the Global Member Meeting can look forward to meetings, social and networking sessions, workshops, as well as strategic sessions. On Wednesday, Mr. Joe Samuels Chief Executive Officer of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) will deliver his keynote presentation on “Recognition by Professional Bodies”, this will be followed by discussions on “Simplifying the CFP® Certification Process and Global Portability of the CFP® Certification”.

“Member recognitions and anniversaries”; “World Financial Planning Day highlights” and a discussion on “Fintech and the Future of Financial Planning” are scheduled for Thursday morning, followed in the afternoon by World Financial Planning Day Workshop.

On hosting FPSB’s Global Member Meeting in Cape Town, FPI’s CEO, Godfrey Nti’s said “We welcome the global delegates to South Africa and look forward to fruitful discussions on trends and developments in the global financial services arena, CFP® certification and being part of creating, reviewing, debating and approving policies and procedures for the management, protection and promotion of the international CFP® certification programme.”

“With the event being held in South Africa, it provides the African financial planning community an opportunity to work closely with FPSB and other international affiliates to promote and communicate the highest levels of professionalism that CFP® professionals adhere to”, Nti concluded.
