Multi channel works

14 April 2004 | | Angelo Coppola

The alliance between short-term insurance broker, First Link and Auto & General is paying off, they say.

This emerged at the end of the first quarter of the joint initiative between First Link, a strong believer in the pro-consumer role of intermediaries and Auto & General, which helped pioneer the direct-to-public model for short-term insurance delivery in South Africa.

Direct-to-public insurance sales attract high media exposure, but 85% of short-term personal lines business is continuously generated by intermediaries, and according to First Link, this confirms the value placed by the public on personal service and the availability of choices.

Roland Lange, Auto & General’s director for broker business, points out that “Auto & General has always had a multi-channel distribution strategy, making use of both direct sales and intermediary-led marketing.

“The alliance with First Link brings a new dimension to this broker-based sales effort.”
