Medshield enhances value offered by scheme options

21 June 2007 Medshield

Medshield, one of South Africa's largest open medical schemes has revised the monthly rates of two of its products. MediPlus and MediBonus have been revised by 4% and 1% respectively, ensuring they are attractive healthcare options for South Africas middle class segment of the population. This will have an immediate effect on current members and is likely to attract additional new members too.

In September last year, Medshield announced the following new and improved options:

* MediPlus this has absorbed MediBase to form a comprehensive, traditional option with an overall annual limit of R750 000. The option provides extensive in-hospital benefits as well as increased chronic medication and routine benefits, making it a great option for families. Members with dependants that have average to high medical expenses will benefit even more from the lower monthly premiums.
* MediBonus a traditional option with no overall annual limit and provides excellent benefits for surgical procedures done in and out of hospital. This option is very popular with growing families due to its extraordinary maternity benefits, which provide comprehensive cover for in- and out-of-hospital maternity events. Higher income earning families and those with the greatest medical needs will not find a more inclusive medical plan.

Last year's annual medical scheme rate increases saw Medshields single digit increase for the third consecutive year, ranking it as one of the lowest in the market. Together with this more recent news of the revised MediPlus and MediBonus rates, the scheme once again indicates a constant objective to offer real value.
