Liberty Medical Scheme to move adminstrators

10 June 2008 | Healthcare | Medical Schemes | Medscheme

Medscheme CEO André Meyer has confirmed that Liberty Medical Scheme will not be renewing its administration and managed care contracts with Medscheme when they expire at the end of the year.

Meyer said that decision was not unexpected. “Liberty Health re-entered the healthcare market late last year and their appointment to manage the Liberty scheme is the logical result of that strategy,” he said.

“Medscheme takes comfort from the fact that the contracts were not terminated as a result of poor service or through a break down in relationships. In fact the opposite is true – the Board has explicitly thanked Medscheme’s administration team for the excellent service and stressed that the decision was made for strategic, rather than operational reasons.”

“Medscheme will continue to deliver the level of service to which Liberty Medical Scheme’s principal members have become accustomed until the contract expires.”

Commenting on the impact on the business, Meyer said that although Medscheme is never happy to lose a client, the business has set its sights on achieving certain growth targets and is pursuing other exciting opportunities.
