Fedhealth launches Wellovation Weight management challenge
Fedhealth in conjunction with Longevity magazine has launched a nine-month weight management challenge, the Wellovation Challenge. The challenge will see nine regular South Africans who, over a nine-month period, will attempt to turn their bad habits i
"The facts speak for themselves. South Africa is currently ranked third in
the world for obesity. This means that nearly two out of every three people
living in this country have a weight problem. It is this pandemic that has
resulted in Fedhealth, in conjunction with Longevity, creating the
Wellovation Challenge," says Peter Jordaan, Principal Officer of Fedhealth.
The panel of health experts consists of Celynn Erasmus, a registered
dietician; Karina Reid, a registered organisational psychologist and
executive coach; Dr. Ela Manga, an integrated medical practitioner; Dr. Jeff
King, a cardiologist; as well as fitness expert Lisa Raleigh.
The candidates range in age, gender and backgrounds and their profiles can
be found on the interactive Facebook page, where their progress can also be
followed and commented on. The page also features additional tips on weight
loss and exercise from the experts.
"Carrying extra weight puts strain on your heart and those who are heavily
overweight often have higher cholesterol levels, higher blood pressure and
are either living with metabolic syndrome (a precursor to diabetes) or
diabetes itself," adds Jordaan. "We hope the challenge inspires all of our
members, as well as other people in society who grapple with everyday health
issues to take action and change their lifestyles for the better."
