CMS: Pro Sano curatorship lifted
The Western Cape High Court lifted the curatorship of Pro Sano Medical Scheme on 1 November 2010 following a successful application by the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS), regulator of the industry.
The new Board of Trustees assumed office on the same day. The court order will be published in the Government Gazette, Cape Argus and Business Day on 12 November 2010.
The Registrar of Medical Schemes & Chief Executive of the CMS, Dr Monwabisi Gantsho, addressed the new Pro Sano trustees in Cape Town: “The curator has addressed the concerns over governance which gave rise to the curatorship and there is every confidence that Pro Sano will continue to serve its beneficiaries well going forward. Today a new Pro Sano is born which dedicates its existence to proper governance as well as fitness and propriety goals.”
Pro Sano has over 60 000 beneficiaries and a solvency above the 25% prescribed by the Medical Schemes Act (Act 131 of 1998). It was placed under curatorship in 2007.
