CMS: Gen-Health liquidates; beneficiaries safe

15 October 2010 | Healthcare | Medical Schemes | Council for Medical Schemes (CMS)

Regulator of the industry the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) regrets to announce that Gen-Health Medical Scheme (Gen-Health) is being liquidated in terms of Section 53 of the Medical Schemes Act 131 of 1998 with effect from 12 October 2010. The curatorship of Gen-Health has unfortunately failed to bring about the anticipated turnaround of the scheme.

On 14 October 2010 the Master of the High Court authorised the appointment of Mr Kobus van der Westhuizen of Tutor Trust CC as the liquidator of the scheme, following a successful approach by the CMS.

Former members of Gen-Health are being given the opportunity to transfer to Medshield Medical Scheme (Medshield) without facing any general or condition-specific waiting periods. Medshield has agreed to take in former members of Gen-Health with effect from 13 October 2010.

Mr Van der Westhuizen will now assess the financial position of Gen-Health to determine the best way forward. Former members of the scheme are encouraged to contact him directly should they have any further queries concerning outstanding claims. His number is 012 329 5775 and his e-mail address is kobus@tutortrust.co.za.
