Liberty Health to take over Medicover administration

Liberty Health today announced that the Competition Commission and the Council for Medical Schemes have given their approval for Vmed to take ownership of Medicover’s administration and managed healthcare capabilities. Vmed is the administration business of Liberty Health.

Commenting on the receipt of the approvals, Liberty Health Chief Executive, Peter Botha, said:

“This transaction has resulted in Vmed almost doubling the number of lives to whom it provides administration services to over 350 000 - creating a powerful partnership that will allow for continued growth and expansion.

“Medicover members can be rest assured that considerable forward planning has taken place to ensure a seamless transition from existing administration arrangements to our modern, leading-edge systems. The changeover has been structured to ensure no disruption to claims handling, call centre access or member services,” Botha concluded.

The administration of Medicover by Vmed commenced on the 1 January 2009
