CMS: Draft Demarcation Regulations

08 November 2016 Dr Humphrey Zokufa, CMS

National Treasury and the Department of Health issued a joint media statement on 28 October 2016, after tabling the draft Demarcation Regulations in Parliament.

The Regulations are the outcome of a consultative process between the Ministers of Finance and Health, as well as the Financial Services Board (FSB) and the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS).

The media statement provides a summary of the draft Regulations, the consultation process, amendment of the definition of the “business of a medical scheme” and implementation timelines, with the intention of implementation on 1 April 2017.

The CMS would like to bring the media statement to attention of all its stakeholders, as the Demarcation Regulations will impact operations of the majority of stakeholders.
