Acting CE & registrar of Council for Medical Schemes appointed

01 February 2017 CMS

The Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) announced today, 1 February 2017, the appointment of the Acting Chief Executive & Registrar for medical schemes.

The Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, appointed Dr Sipho Kabane to act until the vacant CE & Registrar’s position is filled. Dr Kabane has been with the CMS for seven months as the Senior Strategist and has several years’ experience in the public health sector. Dr Kabane said: “I am privileged to be Acting CE & Registrar and am committed to take the CMS and the private healthcare sector forward in my acting capacity, whilst the process of appointing a permanent Registrar is continuing”.

Prof Yosuf Veriava, Chairperson of Council, made the announcement and confirmed that the CMS will continue with its regulatory functions as vigilant as always under the guidance of Dr Kabane. He also expressed gratitude towards Mr Daniel Lehutjo, Chief Financial Officer, who held the reigns previously, as well as for the month of January after the passing away of the late Registrar, Dr Humphrey Zokufa.
