Statistics South Africas Quarterly Employment Statistics (QES) survey for the quarter ended December 2005 showed that the number of people employed in the formal non-agricultural sector in South Africa increased by 1,3% q-o-q (2,2% y-o-y) to an estimated

Most other sectors also reported increases except for the mining and financial industries, which dropped by 4,8%y-o-y and 0,7%y-o-y respectively.
Gross earnings paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector increased to R171bn (up 9,2%q-o-q and 6,9%y-o-y) compared with R156bn.
