Acting Pension Funds Adjudicator appointed

The Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan has announced the appointment of an acting Pension Funds Adjudicator with immediate effect.

Dr Elmarie de la Rey will act as Pensions Fund Adjudicator until 30 April 2011 during the absence of Charles Pillai who has been incapacitated due to illness.

Mr Pillai who took office as Pension Funds Adjudicator with effect from 1 April 2010 for three years has informed the Financial Services Board that he will be unable to perform his duties for at least the next six months.

Before his appointment as Pension Funds Adjudicator, Mr Pillai had been the Ombud for Financial Services for six years.

Dr De la Rey had previously served as acting Pension Funds Adjudicator for six months until Mr Pillai’s appointment, following the resignation of the former Pension Funds Adjudicator Ms Mamodupi Mohlala.

Dr De la Rey joined Minister Gordhan and the Financial Services Board in wishing Mr Pillai a speedy recovery.
