Public warning against Christian Funeral Parlour

05 March 2021 | Compliance - Regulatory | Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) (was FSB) | The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA)

The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) warns the public to exercise caution in doing any financial business with Christian Funeral Parlour.

Christian Funeral Parlour is not authorised in terms of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, 2002 (FAIS Act) to render any financial advice and/or intermediary services.

According to information at the FSCA’s disposal Christian Funeral Parlour purports to be an authorised financial services provider using the FSP numbers 41097 and 39899 in their letterheads and correspondence. The FSCA can confirm that the FSP no. 39899 does not exist and FSP number 41097 belongs to Fintek CC. Fintek CC have also confirmed that they have no relationship with Christian Funeral Parlour.

According to the FSCA’s records, Christian Funeral Parlour is neither an authorised financial service provider (FSP) nor a representative of an authorised FSP and there is no record of an application to become an authorised FSP with the FSCA.

Members of the public should always check that an entity or individual is registered with the FSCA to provide Financial Advisory & Intermediary Services and what category of advice it is that the entity is registered to provide. There are instances where persons are registered to provide basic advisory services for a low risk product and then offer services of a far more complex and risky nature. The FSCA again reminds consumers who wish to conduct financial services with an institution or person to check beforehand with the FSCA on either the toll free number (0800 110 443) or on the website www.fsca.co.za as to whether or not such institution or person is authorised to render financial services.
