Temba Mvusi appointed Santam executive head: market development

27 November 2008 Santam

Responsiveness to the business environment through strong stakeholder relationship building has been prioritised by Santam with the appointment of Temba Mvusi (pictured) to the executive committee of the company.

Mvusi will retain a similar role at Sanlam which means that he will effectively spearhead stakeholder relationship building and contribute to emerging market development across the Sanlam Group.

According to Ian Kirk, Chief Executive of Santam, “We have prioritised client-centricity in the business and have completed a process that means brokers and clients are more easily able to do business with us. We believe these initiatives will make Santam very responsive to the needs of these two important stakeholders groups. In fact, our financial results, along with the Ask Afrika Orange Index award, Deloitte Best Company to Work for award, Financial Intermediaries Association accolade as Insurer of the Year suggests we are on the right track with our stakeholders.

With Temba’s appointment we aim to increase our innovation and market responsiveness to make Santam a company that deeply understands and responds to the wider business environment and to the broader needs of the country. In this role Temba will add a great deal of value to our operations. He brings a track record, great experience and deep insight into stakeholder relationship building and emerging market development, crucial areas for any business intent on being competitive into the future.”

Kirk says that Mvusi will also be able to add value in several other areas of the business such as building value for empowerment partners, Santam’s sustainability practices, marketing and converting new business opportunities.

“His appointment is a tangible sign of the progress that the Group has made in identifying areas that cut across the business and that can be innovatively managed to create bottom line growth. This type of appointment will enable us to be more nimble, innovative and forward-thinking in our market development initiatives so that we can become even more responsive to the opportunities in our markets,” said Kirk.

“This is a significant opportunity for Sanlam and Santam to collaborate even more closely and through true partnership to create value for each other. I look forward to taking on this challenge and helping to further entrench the brand leadership position of Santam in the short term insurance sector and among its stakeholders,” says Mvusi.

The appointment is effective from 1 December 2008.
