Top brokers acknowledged by Santam

Following the success of its inaugural ‘Great Umbrella Ball’ for business partners last year, Santam, the country’s largest short-term insurer, has once again hosted a function at which, among other, the achievements of top national brokers were recognised and rewarded. The function also provided Santam the opportunity to celebrate its 90th birthday with its business partners.

The second Great Umbrella Ball took place at Montecasino and is widely regarded as a highlight of the intermediary insurance industry calendar. The event proved to be a spectacular and glittering black-tie event, complete with world-class entertainment that included the cast of the hit musical Chicago, Gavin Minter and James Frank and the sticky triggers.

Explaining the rationale behind the Great Umbrella Ball, Executive Head for People and Brand Services at Santam, Margaret Massie, says that it provides an opportunity for Santam to express its gratitude to the top players in the industry and to encourage even stronger relationships between Santam and the broker community.

“Santam took the decision to become a fully intermediary-driven business. As such, our continuing success and leadership position within the short-term insurance industry after 90 years in the business is fundamentally dependent upon the role played by our intermediaries and other business partners,” she says.

“It is only fitting that we should pay tribute to the top brokers, underwriting managers and administrators. The Great Umbrella Ball is our way of underlining the importance we place on their services to clients and to the industry as a whole.”

In total, five awards were extended, including top national broker in the personal lines, commercial, and specialist insurance categories, as well as top underwriting agency and top administrator.

PSG Konsult was named Top National Broker in the personal lines category for the second year in succession. ABSA Brokers won the award as the top broker in the commercial lines category, while Alexander Forbes won the award in the specialist business category. SHA was named Underwriting Manager of the Year, and Brolink the Administrator of the Year.

“We believe that the partnership of intermediary and insurer is crucial to promoting sound risk management principles amongst our policyholders and assisting them to minimise the risks that they face. We congratulate our winners and look forward to an ever-closer partnership between ourselves and all our intermediaries,” concludes Massie.
