Santam ranks 10th in the South African Top Employer 2023

23 January 2023 Santam

Santam, the country’s largest short-term insurer, has, for the seventh consecutive year, been certified as a Top Employer (TE) in South Africa by the Top Employers Institute, the global HR authority on recognising excellence in people practices. The Institute awards this certification to employers that provide excellent employee conditions, nurture and develop talent across all levels of the organisation, and strive to optimise employee experiences and practices. This certification also allows organisations to leverage their employer branding, benchmark their practices against other top performers, and globally align their policies.

Portia Mogale, the Acting Executive Head of Human Resources at Santam, says, “We're honoured to have been certified as a Top Employer for the seventh consecutive year. This acknowledgement reflects our organisation's passion for people and dedication to fostering an environment that empowers staff to thrive and perform their roles with purpose. Being recognised by this independent global authority once again verifies our commitment to our people.”

The Top Employer Institute is the global authority in recognising excellence in people practices. Through the Top Employers Institute Certification Programme, participating companies can be validated, certified, and recognised as an employer of choice. In 2022, the Institute certified over 2 052 organisations in 123 countries, which impact the lives of over 8 million employees globally. Santam has been ranked 10th in South Africa, out of 128 participating companies and is the only insurance company in the South African top ten.

To display the Top Employer seal, participating companies must achieve consistently high standards as part of an extensive assessment process with a wide spread of people practices analysed and ranked across nineteen topics. The criteria assessed include people strategy, leadership, digital HR, employer brand, talent attraction, learning, career and performance, employee wellbeing, rewards and recognition, diversity and inclusion, sustainability, ethics and integrity.

Mogale concludes, “We realise that everyone in our organisation contributes towards the success of Santam. Therefore rewarding, recognising and growing this talent are key components of our people strategy. At the core of our functioning is our culture where we to strive to create a work environment that nurtures and supports our people to enable them to flourish. As we celebrate this achievement, we are also focussing our attention on the areas we need to strengthen, as we endeavour to create an exceptional experience for all our people.”

Santam Limited is a licensed insurer conducting a non-life insurance business and a licensed controlling company. To learn more about the Top Employers Institute and the Top Employers certification visit: www.top-employers.com.
