Santam launches mobile app to augment intermediaries' risk management services

For insurance intermediaries specialising in commercial insurance, giving clients sound advice depends on a thorough understanding of all the possible risks a business can face. One critical step toward getting this right is capturing data as accurately and quickly as possible.
Shehnaz Somers, head of commercial underwriting at Santam, says the business had recently launched its Risk Assessment App (available on Android and iOS mobile devices) to intermediaries in a bid to equip them with relevant tools in a changing risk environment. The launch of this app takes place in the context of an increase in the types of risks South African businesses face. “For example, earlier this year, Santam reported an increase in large commercial and corporate property claims. We are giving this and other significant risks facing commercial businesses in South Africa our full attention.”
Somers emphasises that insurance intermediaries are integral business partners to Santam and the company would continue to support their growth by embracing opportunities to help them manage their clients’ risks.
Santam’s Risk Assessment App allows intermediaries to generate comprehensive risk reports while offering various enhancements to servicing clients. Its features include:
- Increased accuracy in capturing data
With more accurate risk information, intermediaries are able to offer better underwriting and needs analysis to their clients.
- Speed and efficiency
Offering a simple drop-down navigation menu with one-touch inputs, the app allows brokers to save time uploading data, and speeds up the communication process with clients by offering real-time assessments.
- Centralised information
Client data is centralised in one space , giving portable and immediate access to risk reports. Highly convenient and efficient, it allows intermediaries to refer to risk data at any time and to better manage clients’ risk exposure. The risk report also contains photographs taken on site which intermediaries can use to demonstrate and explain risks to their clients.
While an intermediary is not obliged to insure their client with Santam, they can promptly request a quote from Santam for a specific kind of risk, using the app. The app also facilitates policy renewals and policy renewal documentation which is pre-loaded on the app if the intermediary’s client has a Santam policy.
