Sanlam’s new board appointment reflects international expansion

Sanlam has announced the appointment of Mr Clement Burns Booth as independent non-executive director to the Sanlam Board of Directors (Board) with effect from 1 January 2015.

Booth, who is based in London, has vast executive and board experience in the financial services industry locally and abroad. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE (formerly Allianz AG), responsible for Global Insurance Lines (corporate and specialty insurance), Reinsurance and Anglo Markets (UK, Ireland and Australia) and will take up the Sanlam position upon his retirement from this position at year-end.

Born in South Africa and educated locally and in Germany, Booth is also a Member of the Board of Directors of the Association of British Insurers and is chairman of a number of company boards. Locally, he previously held executive positions at Santam Limited, AA Mutual, Price Forbes, Southern Life and Munich Re, among others.

Welcoming Booth, Board Chairman, Mr Desmond Smith, said: “With Sanlam’s exponential growth internationally, we believe Mr Booth’s wealth of experience at both executive and board level of well-established multinationals will add value to the Sanlam Board’s insights into industry trends and the international markets in which Sanlam is now a player. We look forward to his contribution.”

Commenting on his appointment, Booth said: “I am honoured to take up membership of the Board of Directors of Sanlam and I hope my knowledge and experience will contribute to guiding the company’s continued growth and stature as a diversified multinational financial services company.”
