Top kudos went to Old Mutual for being an employer of choice when the company was named as the Number 1 Top Employer in South Africa and Ghana at the Top Employers Institute gala dinner in Johannesburg last night.
To add to its prestigious ranking, Old Mutual remains the Industry Leader in Financial Services and Insurance for the 7th consecutive year and has been certified as a Top Employer in all 13 countries across the African continent where it has operations. These countries are South Africa, Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Kenya (both UAP Old Mutual and Faulu Kenya) and Uganda.
Old Mutual Emerging Markets (OMEM) Human Resources Director Anisha Archary says she is proud that Old Mutual continues to strengthen its reputation as a leading business on the African continent. “We are both delighted and humbled by these awards and achievement. It comes at a time when Old Mutual is embarking on an exciting journey, to prepare for our independent future next year. Being a consistent Top Employer places us in a very strong position to achieve our aspiration of being Africa’s financial services champion.”
Archary says it has taken a well-orchestrated plan to ensure this achievement. To overcome the complexity presented by its broad geographical spread, size and diverse environments, Old Mutual’s People strategy focuses on creating best in class people practices across its operations to ensure distinctive consistency.
“We set out eight years ago to take Human Resources (HR) out of the bunker and into the boardroom. Transforming the HR capability has required a relentless focus on getting the basics right, while working on being a catalyst for change. A major philosophical shift that we’re driving is to ensure that employees take equal accountability for their career to unlock the greatness within them,” she says.
“Everything we do at Old Mutual is founded on our core purpose of championing positive futures every day. This sense of purpose and our values-based and customer-centric culture are key elements of inspiring trust in our business. As a custodian of our customers’ savings and investments, we need to earn and maintain their trust, and safeguard our strong reputation as a trusted financial services provider. We truly believe that raising HR’s strategic contribution to the business and our employees is a ‘journey without end’. At Old Mutual we remain committed to continuing on this path,” Archary concludes.
