Kuseni Dlamini to leave Old Mutual, Ralph Mupita to succeed as CEO, Old Mutual emerging markets

Old Mutual today announced that Kuseni Dlamini, Chief Executive Officer of Old Mutual Emerging Markets (OMEM) has decided to move on from the Company to pursue other business opportunities. Ralph Mupita, currently CEO for Emerging Markets Life and Savings will take on the role as Chief Executive Officer of Old Mutual Emerging Markets from 1 February 2012. Mr. Dlamini will remain in an advisory capacity until the end of March 2012.

Despite difficult market conditions, Mr. Dlamini has continued to strengthen the business both in South Africa and other emerging markets and has put in place a strong leadership team and structure to lead the implementation of the OMEM strategic vision which he was very instrumental in developing. Mr. Dlamini also put in place a clear operating model to effectively grow and expand the emerging markets business.

Paul Hanratty, chairman of the Old Mutual Life Assurance Company (OMLACSA) thanked Mr. Dlamini for his valuable contribution. Mr. Hanratty said: "I have no doubt that Kuseni will continue to contribute to the country’s growth and prosperity as a business leader with a commitment to South Africa’s global competitiveness. We wish him well".

Ralph Mupita has been Chief Executive Officer for Old Mutual Emerging Markets: Life and Savings since March 2011.

He joined Old Mutual in 2000 in the Individual Life business. In 2004 he was promoted to Managing Director of Old Mutual Unit Trusts. In 2006, he was appointed to the role of Strategy Director and led the development of several new businesses within Old Mutual South Africa as Director of New Ventures. Mr. Mupita was instrumental in setting up and leading Old Mutual Finance - focused on lending solutions to mass market customers. In 2008, he was appointed as Managing Director - Retail to drive the growth of Old Mutual in the affluent market. Mr. Mupita is a director on the main emerging markets board, OMLACSA, as well as OMIGSA and on boards in the rest of Africa, Latin America and Asia operations.

An engineer by training (B.Sc. Eng Hons.), Mr. Mupita obtained a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Cape Town in 2000. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s GMP programme, and has also attended executive programmes at London Business School and INSEAD.

The OMLACSA Board of Directors and the Old Mutual Executive Committee are pleased to welcome Mr. Mupita to this important role.
