Mutual & Federal is the Insurance Industry’s Best Employer
Mutual & Federal, one of the leading short-term insurers in southern Africa, has been named as the Best Employer in the insurance sector by the Corporate Research Foundation (CRF) Institute. The Institute, an international organisation, identifies top performers in the areas of human resources and leadership.
The announcement was made at a gala dinner held by the CRF Institute on the 24th of August at the Sandton Sun Hotel, where Mutual & Federal, a member of the Old Mutual Group, was certified as one of the Best Employers in South Africa.
“Mutual & Federal is thrilled to have been awarded this prestigious certification,” says Basetsana Magano, Executive Group Human Capital of Mutual & Federal. “What makes this certification so valuable is that it is based on an entirely objective, independent assessment of an organisation’s people policies. It means that Mutual & Federal is following international best practice when it comes to our human resources strategy. We are pleased to have HR experts confirm that we are on the right track to achieving our vision of being the employer of choice in the insurance sector.”
The research conducted by the CRF Institute investigates all critical areas of Human Resources Management in a company, from primary and secondary benefits to working conditions to training and career development. Senior HR managers within the organisation are required to discuss and analyse their key HR practices and strategies, such as succession plans and means of tracking top talent, in terms of their priority across the organisation. The company is also required to provide extensive documentation to support their ratings and the results are then audited by Grant Thornton against the standards set by the CRF. Those organisations that meet the requirements then receive the Best Employers Certification Seal.
“This is the first year that Mutual & Federal has undertaken this audit, so we are extremely proud to be certified as a Best Employer on our first attempt,” Magano emphasises. “Our ratings for each aspect of the assessment are also now an important benchmark for our company and we know which areas to focus our energies on for the next twelve months so that we can continue to exercise best practice in the HR industry. We will definitely be applying for certification again next year as we believe it gives us a valuable opportunity to strive towards continually improving our policies and attracting top talent.”
