Mutual & Federal Agri congratulates southern Africa’s sheep shearing champions

Mutual & Federal Agri would like to congratulate the sheep shearers who proudly represented southern Africa at the Golden Shears World Shearing and Wool-handling Championships. The contest was held in Wales from 19 – 22 July 2010.

The eight member South African team was crowned world blade shearing champions.

Zingisele Elliot Ntsombo, from Lesotho, became the new world blade shearing champion and Zweliwile Hans, from the Eastern Cape, won the wool blade shearing final.

This year’s event attracted entries from 28 countries, including Norway, Italy, the United States of America – with South Africa and Lesotho being the only African countries participating.

“We are very proud of these winners and what they’ve done to promote South Africa and Lesotho’s sheep shearing talent”, says Andries Wiese, group manager for Agri at Mutual & Federal.

“It is wonderful to see how far we’ve come”, says Mariette Watson from the South African Sheep Shearing Federation. “Achievements like these are proof that our sheep shearing training courses and regional competitions are bearing fruit”, she continues

Mutual & Federal Agri, the agriculture division of Mutual & Federal, has been closely working with the South African Sheep Shearing Federation - in support of this sector. The Federation was responsible for South Africa’s participation in these championships.
