Multiply saves R10 million for members who shop at Dis-Chem

Members of Multiply, the wellness and rewards programme offered by Momentum, have saved more than R10 million by shopping at Dis-Chem. The award-winning national chain of pharmacies has been a Multiply partner since December 2011.

“Achieving this milestone in just less than three years proves that Multiply is making a real and meaningful difference in the lives of our members, at a time when consumers are increasingly under pressure caused by rising inflation and a slowing economy,” says Jaco Oosthuizen, CEO of Multiply.

With an unemployment rate of 25 percent, inflation at just over six percent and the economy expected to grow at only two percent in 2014, South African consumers are clearly under enormous pressure to make ends meet.

“Multiply offers its members the opportunity to benefit from meaningful everyday value that makes a positive impact in their daily lives,” says Oosthuizen. “Putting R10 million back in our members’ pockets in such a short time is clear evidence that we have made a difference to our members – by rewarding them for making smart choices, and putting money back in their wallets when they need it the most.”

Multiply members get between 12.5% and 25% back in Dis-Chem benefit points on selected Dis-Chem branded and nutritional products, and between 5% and 10% back in Dis-Chem benefit points on all other products when they swipe their Multiply-branded Dis-Chem card when making purchases in-store. They also earn Multiply points for doing health assessments at any Dis-Chem clinic, which in turn contribute to their points status and discount level.

“Our partnership with Dis-Chem reinforces Multiply’s strategy, which is to incentivise our members for taking care of their health and financial wellness,” says Oosthuizen. “The programme makes it easier for cash-strapped South Africans to spend less on items that they really need, because they benefit from Dis-Chem’s low prices, which are further discounted according to their Multiply discount level. This reduces the stress that many South Africans are facing in the current difficult economic climate, where many simply cannot afford preventive health care because of the financial stress that they face.”

“The measure of a rewards or loyalty programme’s success is how much its members engage with its partners, and how much meaningful value they derive from doing so,” Oosthuizen says. “The fact that our members are choosing to shop at Dis-Chem so that they can enjoy the benefits offered by this partnership, indicates that Multiply has a partnership strategy that resonates with our members’ needs.
