Momentum to broaden it’s base to Swaziland

Summerfield, Manzini - Momentum announced on Thursday 11 June 2009 its further expansion into Africa with the opening of a new operation in Swaziland.

“The launch of this operation is yet another initiative undertaken by Momentum which underpins our well-established footprint in Africa,” says Gerhardt van der Merwe, Managing Director of Momentum Africa. Momentum is now represented in 11 African countries, including South Africa.

“Momentum currently administers over 650,000 healthcare lives across Africa, with operations in South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, Kenya, Ghana, Mauritius, Malawi, Namibia and now Swaziland,” says Van der Merwe.

Momentum, a part of the FirstRand Group, is already a known and trusted brand in Swaziland and has followed in the footsteps of First National Bank with their presence in this country.

“As part of our service offering, we will be introducing both life and health products,” continues Van der Merwe.

By doing so Momentum will be bringing a new form of integration to Swaziland. In effect, this means that group healthcare and life insurance products will be combined into a new and exciting integrated product solution. Private healthcare will now be affordable for all employees at every level while integrated with equally affordable life insurance benefits at the same time.

The integrated product offering will be administered by Momentum Swaziland, which is a subsidiary of Momentum Africa, the holding company for the Momentum Group’s African interests outside of South Africa. These currently include health insurance and life insurance subsidiaries in ten countries on the continent. Momentum Africa is a subsidiary of Momentum (Pty) Ltd with the latter being owned by the FirstRand Group, a listed company on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
