As South Africa marks Youth Month, Liberty’s tax-free investment app, Stash, is celebrating a powerful milestone: 233,736 young South Africans aged 18 to 36 are actively using the platform to invest in their futures.

This group now makes up just over 53% of all Stash investors.

Not only are they the largest user segment—they’re also the most impactful. In May 2025 alone, young users contributed R42.48 million, bringing their year-to-date contributions to over R213 million. These numbers point to a growing culture of financial literacy, discipline, and empowerment among the country’s youth.

Among these users are 6,413 “Stash Parents”—young caregivers investing on behalf of their children. The youth community is also 70% female, and just over 71% identify as Black South Africans, demonstrating the platform’s inclusive reach and potential.

In terms of geography, over 36% of these young investors are based in Gauteng, followed by nearly 20% in KwaZulu-Natal, highlighting strong regional adoption and engagement.

“This Youth Month, we celebrate the bold steps young South Africans are taking toward financial independence,” said Glenn Grimley, Head of Stash. “They are not just saving—they are investing, planning, and building a better tomorrow.”

In response to ongoing economic challenges, Stash recently introduced a loyalty benefit aimed at rewarding long-term saving habits and reducing financial pressure. Users who keep their investments intact—without withdrawing or transferring funds—for 12 consecutive months now receive a monthly loyalty bonus, directly enhancing their investment value.

Since its launch in 2017, Stash has evolved from a simple savings tool into a dynamic investment platform, supporting over an overall 400,000 users. With innovative features like the Cash+ Portfolio and the ability to invest through everyday activities, such as exercising or changes in weather, Stash is reshaping how South Africans interact with their money.

Surpassing the 200,000-youth user milestone is a strong testament to the platform’s relevance and reliability—especially in an unpredictable economic landscape. With tools like the loyalty bonus and accessible, mobile-first features, Stash is helping young South Africans build stronger, more secure financial futures—one investment at a time.
