The Liability Company and Old Mutual Insure Strengthen Strategic Partnership

14 July 2026 | Company News & Results | General | The Liability Company (TLC)

The Liability Company (TLC) and Old Mutual Insure (OMI) are pleased to announce the strengthening of their long-standing partnership through the placement of TLC's specialist liability portfolio entirely with Old Mutual Insure, effective 1 July 2026.

The move represents a significant milestone in the evolution of TLC and reflects a shared commitment to investing in specialist liability insurance and building one of South Africa's leading specialist liability platforms.

The transition creates a single, fully aligned underwriting platform supported by Old Mutual Insure's financial strength and underwriting capability, while preserving the specialist underwriting expertise, agility and broker-focused service that have become synonymous with The Liability Company.

The enhanced arrangement also introduces broader policy cover, increased underwriting capacity and enhanced limits in several key areas, providing brokers and their clients with an even stronger specialist liability offering.

Recognising the Role of OMARTi
As part of this announcement, TLC would like to acknowledge the important contribution made by Old Mutual Alternative Risk Transfer Insure Limited (OMARTi) over the past six years.

Since partnering with TLC in 2019, OMARTi has played an instrumental role in supporting the growth of the business by providing underwriting capacity, technical expertise and a collaborative partnership that enabled TLC to establish itself as a recognised specialist liability underwriting agency.

The transition to a 100% Old Mutual Insure binder should therefore be viewed as a natural evolution of the business rather than a departure from that successful relationship. TLC extends its sincere appreciation to the OMARTi team for their support and looks forward to continuing to work together throughout the orderly run-off of the existing portfolio.

A Shared Vision
The strengthened partnership reflects a shared ambition between TLC and OMI to continue investing in specialist liability underwriting, product innovation and long-term broker relationships.

For brokers, the transition means continued access to TLC's specialist underwriting team together with the benefit of a simplified underwriting platform, enhanced product offering and the financial strength of one of South Africa's leading insurers.

Simon Colman, Chief Executive Officer of The Liability Company, commented:
"This marks an exciting new chapter for The Liability Company. We're incredibly grateful to the team at Old Mutual Alternative Risk Transfer Insure, who believed in our vision from an early stage and played an integral role in helping us build the business we have today.

As we looked ahead to the next phase of our growth, we wanted a long-term insurance partner that shared our ambition to continue investing in specialist liability underwriting.

This isn't simply about placing our portfolio with a single insurer. It's about creating the scale, stability and long-term alignment needed to continue building one of South Africa's leading specialist liability platforms. We believe Old Mutual Insure shares that vision, and we're excited about what this partnership will enable us to achieve for brokers and their clients."

Samantha Boyd, CEO: Specialty Business, Old Mutual Insure, commented:
"The Liability Company has built an outstanding reputation in the specialist liability market through its technical expertise, entrepreneurial culture and strong broker relationships.

By bringing the portfolio fully onto Old Mutual Insure's balance sheet, we're combining that specialist capability with OMI's financial strength, underwriting capacity and commitment to innovation. Together, we're creating a platform that will continue to deliver value to brokers while supporting the long-term growth of specialist liability insurance in South Africa."

Looking Ahead
TLC's management team, underwriting philosophy and broker relationships remain unchanged. Brokers will continue working with the same specialist team they know and trust, now supported by an enhanced underwriting platform designed to meet the evolving needs of South African businesses.

Together, The Liability Company and Old Mutual Insure remain committed to investing in underwriting excellence, innovative liability solutions and enduring broker partnerships as they continue building the future of specialist liability insurance in South Africa.
