Stonehage Fleming, one of the world’s leading international multi-family offices, today announces that its acquisition of the business and assets of Rootstock Investment Management has been completed.
As a result, effective 1st March 2023, Rootstock’s Worldwide Flexible Fund has been rebranded as the Stonehage Fleming SCI Worldwide Flexible Fund. Rootstock’s Global Equity Fund has been merged into Stonehage Fleming’s Global Best Ideas Equity Fund, which is managed in London by industry leader Gerrit Smit.
Johan Barkhuysen now heads up Stonehage Fleming Equity Management South Africa and will be responsible for expanding the South African equity business. The domestic exposure of the Stonehage Fleming SCI Worldwide Flexible Fund continues to be managed by Barkhuysen while Smit, Head of Global Equity Management in London takes overall responsibility for the fund.
“A driving factor behind the acquisition of these funds was the strong alignment of Rootstock’s investment philosophy with ours,” Smit says. “This has allowed for a relatively seamless transition while growing the intellectual capital of our South African investment team and giving us a footprint in Stellenbosch.”
The Stonehage Fleming Global Best Ideas strategy has $3.7bn under management.
