RGA Announce 2006 Financial Results

Reinsurance Group of America (RGA), Incorporated have announced their 2006 financial year end figures, highlighting an overall increase in income of 24% over 2005. RGA's international operations (excluding the United States of America and Canada) contributed more than 25% of pre-tax income. RGA operates in more than 45 countries, including South Africa.

In 2006 RGA approached $2 trillion of life reinsurance in force, with more than 20 million policies reinsured. Revenue exceeded $5 billion, while income from continuing operations reached $293 million. RGAs international operations contributed $1.26 billion in premiums.

"These results reflect the professionalism, expertise and dedication of RGAs associates across the globe," says Greig Woodring, President and Chief Executive Officer at RGA. "We are also very proud to have been selected as 'Best Overall Life Reinsurer' by our North American clients in the 2007 Flashphler Cedant Survey. This is a great platform for RGA to achieve even greater success in 2007," he concludes.

Conrad Backeberg, Managing Director of RGA South Africa, adds that the strong results, especially from outside of the US market, are emphasizing the success that RGA continues to achieve through its international expansion.  "The South African business has been growing from strength to strength since entering this market in 1999.  The kudos that our North American colleagues have received comes on the back of international recognition that we received and we are proud to be associated with an international company that is focusing on not only delivering strong financial results, but also excellent service to our clients", Backeberg says.
