Bernie Ray

Bernie Ray, CEO of Emerald announced that Hans Schollenberger will be leaving Emerald. Bernie's letter is pasted below.

Dear all,

On Monday 21st September Hans Schollenberger experiences an attempted car hijacking, and whilst thankfully he suffered no physical injury, this thoughtless and callous event has had a deeply traumatic effect on Hans and his family.

During the past few weeks Hans has been on extended leave and I have been in constant communication with him to see what the future holds.  Whilst both he and I were absolutely desirous and hopeful that he could continue to live in South Africa and continue in the employment of Emerald, I must unfortunately advise that Hans has decided that in the interests of the future of his family he will be relocating to Europe and he has tendered his resignation with immediate effect, which I have reluctantly, and with great personal sadness, accepted.

Hans joined Emerald as part of the merger with Santam Corporate, and as Senior Risk Engineer, Portfolio Executive and more recently as Executive Head of Underwriting and Risk, he has played a significant and important role in the growth and success of Emerald.  Hans’s depth of knowledge of risk and his willingness to share and impart that knowledge and experience to his colleagues, and indeed to the market, will be sorely missed by us all.  On a personal level, Hans has been a good friend and mentor to many.

On a very positive note though, I am extremely proud to say that in Chris Potter, Mary Driscoll, Michaela Philips, Glenn Stoneham, and all of the members of their respective underwriting teams, we have very experienced and skilled underwriters who will continue to conduct our underwriting of risk in the Emerald way.  I have absolute faith in this team and no doubt that it will be business as usual at Emerald.

I have in the interim personally assumed Hans’s executive duties and will delegate other duties as appropriate. I invite any of you to contact me directly should you have any queries about the contents hereof or about any matter on which you may have been dealing with Hans directly.  I’ll certainly keep everyone fully apprised of developments as they occur in this space.

In closing, I’m sure that you will join me and my colleagues in wishing Hans and his family all of the very best as he seeks to create his new home in Europe.

Best regards
Bernie
