Managing Director of Airspace Africa Underwriters, Jamie Illing says, “The partnership will entrench our position as the leading aviation underwriter in Southern Africa and also create further growth opportunities throughout Africa.”

“The partnership combines the global expertise, strong brand, international credit rating, skills and experience of Amlin (who were recently voted1 as “The Insurance Company Team of the Year for Aviation”) with our experienced team, customized product offering, Southern African footprint and superb service and claims paying ability. We are excited about the significantly improved overall aviation insurance offering that we would now be able to offer our clients through our broker partners.”

Illing adds that their underwriting capacity has also been vastly increased to cater for the risks that traditionally were placed directly with overseas insurance markets. This should also have a positive impact on the local aviation insurance industry.”

Effective 1st January 2013 Airspace Africa Underwriters will be offering Hull capacity of US$3.75m and Liability capacity of US$50m (up from their current capacity limits of US$2,5m and US$10m respectively).

“We believe that this partnership will unlock the true value that we can offer our valued broker partners (and their clients)”, says Illing, “thus creating a solid, sustainable African aviation insurance business.”

“Our vision is also to as far as is possible try to uplift and stabilize market trading conditions by, amongst other things, creating a more transparent underwriting and broking environment.”

Illing continued by saying, “As a proudly South African Company we also believe by introducing this partnership to the South African aviation insurance market, we will positively contribute to the overall welfare of the South African economy. The Amlin partnership will further enhance our ability to extend our product offering, particularly in the field of risk management, focusing on areas such as pilot safety and risk awareness.”

Miles Taffs, Head of Aviation Underwriting at Amlin noted, “ South Africa is an emerging market with a wealth of natural resources and a well educated population. It is the engine for growth to its contiguous countries and we are excited about growing our presence in these markets through our partnership with Airspace Africa Underwriters".
