Final

Assupol Life is actively involved in grass-roots level development. We believe that young players must be empowered and serve as the breeding ground for senior teams. Assupol Life is committed to playing a major role in grass-roots development, which is in line with our business strategy. We continue to support rugby at all levels, showing their commitment and support for club rugby.

Assupol Life will sponsor money to each club and will also make a contribution to the referees who play a vital role to ensure the series is professionally refereed. This effort will greatly contribute to enhance competition between clubs.

“We believe that we will make a huge contribution to Club rugby and rugby in South Africa. Club rugby is essential if we wish to have strong and competitive professional sides”: said Assupol Life CEO, Gert Wessels. He further said that transformation and development can only receive its rightful place in a strong club culture and appropriate competitions.

It is competitions and opportunities like the Super 16 Series that can narrow the gap between amateur and professional rugby. The practice of contracting junior players often creates the perception that if you don't have a contract – you can't get into the system. Club rugby competitions like the Super 16 Series are essential if we wish to develop a seamless system.

The Super 16 tournament should be a huge motivator for players, not only from the 16 clubs in this year's competition, but also to others. They too can aspire to make it to the top as a club

and become one of their union's elite in order to play against the best that the Northern Unions can offer.
