Discovery will host its second Financial Planning Summit on 19 May 2015 at the Sandton Convention Centre under the theme ‘Making sense of today’s financial complexities’.
Nhlanhla Nene, the Minister of Finance, will be the headline speaker for this year’s summit, leading some of the most interesting and insightful experts in the field of financial planning. Minister Nene was appointed in 2014 after serving as Deputy Minister of Finance since 2008 and is set to share insights into his fiscal vision for South Africa.

Discovery Chief Executive, Adrian Gore will be opening this year’s Discovery Financial Planning Summit with a future outlook of financial planning. Joining him and Minister Nene on stage will be: Deputy Executive Officer of the Financial Services Board Insurance Division, Jonathan Dixon; Economist and Strategist at Investec Asset Management, Nasmeera Moola; Canadian author and communication expert Nicolas Boothman; and renowned life insurance salesman, Peter Rosengard from the UK.
The Discovery Financial Planning Summit will see these local and international experts share the latest insights in best practices regarding financial planning. Speakers’ presentations and discussions will tackle significant issues including regulatory reform, consumer trends and the role of technology, changing demographics, and building a sales brand.
Jonathan Dixon from the Financial Services Board will share insights about Retail Distribution Review (RDR) and the regulatory reforms to distribute financial products to South African customers. Voted Top SA Analyst by Extel, Nasmeera Moola will give her expert view on the current financial landscape for South Africans. Peter Rosengard was Zurich’s top life insurance salesman for 12 years running up to 2014. His presentation is guaranteed to give valuable lessons and insights on how to achieve greatness in the life insurance industry. Peter holds multiple sales records, including selling 100 life policies in one month and selling the largest life policy ever ($100 million).
Called “one of the leading experts in face-to-face communication in the world” by The New York Times, Nicolas Boothman is best-known for his popular books, ‘How to make people like you in 90 seconds or less’ and ‘How to connect in Business in 90 seconds or less’. Both these books have been translated into more than 20 languages. At the Discovery Financial Planning Summit, he’ll take this same topic and apply it to being the most likeable planner in the room. A lively panel discussion will also give a global perspective on financial planning, with advice, opinions and views from leading financial advisers from around the world.
