Get ready Gauteng: the Discovery Vitality Run Series is back!

01 July 2019 Discovery

The highly anticipated Vitality Run Series (VRS) is back in Johannesburg and now, for the first time ever, Pretoria too.

“As a wellness company, it is key to provide South Africans with engaging platforms which encourage them to get active and live healthy lifestyles. This is even more important given the current health landscape in South Africa, which shows an ever-increasing burden of lifestyle-related chronic diseases. Vitality, as a global business, have committed to making 100 million people 20% more active over the next five years, which is aligned to the World Health Organizations’ Global Action Plan on Physical Activity,” says Head of Vitality Wellness, Dr. Craig Nossel.

On this year’s targets, Dr Nossel said: “We aim to reach 60 000 participants in this year’s Gauteng Discovery Vitality Run Series as we continue to help drive sustained positive behaviour change, particularly in the running space”.

Entries to the Johannesburg Vitality Run Series have opened – with the most iconic races awaiting first-time and expert runners in Gauteng.

The VRS Gauteng edition kicks off on Sunday, 11 August, with the Old Eds Road Race with Discovery Vitality and is open to everyone, whether you’re running for fun or training to beat your personal best.

Then on Saturday, 19 October, the VRS will debut in Pretoria with the CSIR Half Marathon with Discovery Vitality – when the Jacarandas are in full bloom.

With each run, participants can choose the distance that suits their experience and fitness level (5 km, 10 km and 21.1 km). Not only is the VRS a great way to get out on the road with friends and family, runners will also receive a limited edition medal at each race and Vitality members earn bonus Vitality points. In the meantime, runners can start getting winter fit at weekly parkrun and myrun.
