COVID-19: clients remain insured even if they cannot renew their vehicle licences

16 July 2020 Discovery Insure

Many business owners are concerned about the validity of their motor vehicle licences if they cannot renew them during the COVID-19 period. They are also worried that their motor insurance claims may get rejected because their licences have expired.

We are pleased to inform you that Discovery Business Insurance clients whose licences expired during the lockdown period will not have their motor claims affected if they cannot renew their licences due to COVID-19 restrictions. This includes the following licence types:

• Learner licences
• Driving licences
• Temporary driving licences
• Motor vehicle licence discs
• Temporary permits
• Roadworthy certificates
• Professional driving permits
• Motor trade number licences

As a result, clients will have peace of mind that they will remain fully insured according to the motor insurance cover stated in their plan.

We encourage clients to keep safe during this time and follow the safety standards specified by the government to protect their employees and customers.

QUESTION

Is the commission procurement rule introduced via clause 5.14 of the Amended Financial Services Sector Code (AFSSC) an important piece of the transformation puzzle?

ANSWER

The clause’s implementation coincides with an increase in the minimum spend targets, which further complicates matters
Many FSPs still view the AFSSC as a matter of choice and consequence rather than compliance
Transformation represents a great opportunity for growth and penetration by brokers
Brokers are unlikely to find their commission business yanked away from them by insurers looking to influence procurement scorecards
