Scores Participate in the Annual Bestmed ACE Road Race

16 January 2014 Sasja la Grange, Bestmed

With an outstanding record since its inception, the annual Bestmed Athletics Club Eersterus (ACE) Road Race was yet another success this year with over 3000 participants. The 2014 event took place on Saturday 11th January at Eersterus, Pretoria where Katherine Malungane of Transnet won the 21.1km Women’s Open at a time of 01:27:55.

Malungane was not the only one who took the winning trophy home. Wesley Mutai of Toyota won the 10km Men’s Open at 32:35:2, Thembi Baloyi of TUT won the 10km Women’s Open at a time of 38:07:2 and Vuyisile Tshoba of Transnet won the 21.1km Men’s Open at 01:08:20:2.

"Once again we are proud to be associated with this great event, which is not only fun for individuals and families but it is also a great way of keeping fit and starting the new year on a good footing. At Bestmed, we encourage the adoption of our four wellness pillars which are the cornerstone of the preventative healthcare approach, namely Be Active; Be Nutri-wise; Be Safe and Be Happy. Our sponsorship of sporting events such as the ACE Road Race demonstrates our commitment,” says Sasja La Grange, Communications Manager at Bestmed.

Professional and fun runners from the local community and neighbouring areas participated in the 5,10 and 21.1km event held at the Eersterus Stadium. Over the years, the event has become a highlight on the community’s calendar and everyone is eager to take part. "I am extremely happy that I won the event this year. I trained very hard in preparation for the event. The route was challenging but with perseverance and support from the community, I succeeded,” says winner of the women’s 21.1km race, Katherine Malungane.

The ACE Race, which was launched 19 years ago with an initial number of 984 runners, has grown from strength to strength whilst becoming a great and memorable event. "Judging by the number of people who are now participating in this race, it is clear that this event is a success, with overwhelming support from the community. People support this event either by taking part in the race or by motivating those who are participating,” says Jethro Moses founder member and former chairman of ACE. "This event plays a positive role and has become a catalyst for people to live fun, active and healthier lives.”

"Bestmed looks forward to continuing its sponsorship of this event and congratulates all the winners, participants and the community for their support,” concludes La Grange.
