PPS: Dentistry student scoops top professional scholarship

One of South Africa’s leading professional awards – the R30,000 PPS Chairman’s Scholarship – has been given to a young Dentist from the University of the Western Cape, 21-year old Imaan Roomaney.

It’s the 11^th year that PPS, the financial services company that provides investments, insurance and healthcare exclusively to graduate professionals, has made the award available.

“The standard of applicants for the PPS Scholarship was extremely high and I am delighted that, once again, our selection panel had such a tough short list from which to choose,” said PPS Chairman, Dr. David Presbury. “The final three candidates are all outstanding students, high achievers with distinguished track records, who will go on to grace their professions.”

Dr. Presbury says the PPS Chairman’s Scholarship and Bursary Programme underscores the company’s commitment to the education of graduate professionals.

PPS recently granted 20 bursaries of R10,000 each, to students, based on financial need. In this way, the company continues to build not only for the broader community, but also for its own very specific target market. PPS exists to serve graduate professionals, so it makes strategic sense for them to invest in building their own capacity and strengthen relationships with universities.

Roomaney, a 4^th year student in the Dentistry Faculty says she’s delighted to receive the PPS Chairman’s Scholarship: “I want to pursue a career specialising in maxillo-facial or oral surgery. I’m absolutely passionate about it and work extremely hard. I have won a number of awards for my studies but the PPS Chairman’s Scholarship is the most distinguished so far.”

The PPS Chairman’s Scholarship is open to all students registered at South African universities for at least a 4^th year of study. PPS will limit application to students of professions that would eventually become eligible for PPS membership, like medicine, law, dentistry, accountancy, engineering and so on.
